RECIPE: Spicy Sausage and Cream Cheese Dip

This is one of my favorite things to bring to a party or a family gathering. And my apologies, but there is absolutely NO way of photographing it in a flattering way. I suppose I could have daintily placed a sprig of parsley on top, or maybe arranged it artfully with a pretty sterling silver serving spoon, but this isn’t a pretentious food blog. I remember my brother saying once, “You can’t polish a turd.” I know that turd idioms are probably entirely inappropriate in a post about a food item, but see previous line about pretentious food blog.

In Ohio, it is affectionately referred to as “buzzard puke” (ahhh…you nutty Ohioans), but I try not to say that phrase out loud down here in the South. I’m afraid that a lot of folks already think I’m crass and ill-mannered enough, so I try not to give them extra fodder.

It is so ridiculously simple, and just delicious.

Ingredients and directions:
32 oz. sausage (mild or hot, your choice)
16 oz. cream cheese
2 cans RoTel (diced tomatoes with green chiles…if you can’t find RoTel, just buy them separately)

Brown and drain the sausage. Add to crockpot. Add RoTel and Cream cheese, and heat until all melty and gooey.

Serve with Ritz crackers, Fritos scoops (I swear I should get some kind of endorsement deal from them), or if you want to be really decadent, serve over BISCUITS FOR BREAKFAST!
