2005: Hanging Rock State Park

Being young, with minimal responsibilities outside of work, and having disposable income…that was fun.

We stocked up on a bunch of camping gear in 2005, which we still have today. Our first camping trip was to Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, NC. Before we field-tested the gear, we set up camp in our apartment. And also took selfies, of course.

We were greeted by a copperhead as we drove into the park, and I was the one driving, so I immediately stopped the Jeep in the middle of the road, and hopped out with my camera. The photo is blurry because I was a bit shaky from adrenaline, and my camera was just a point and shoot at that time. Captain was not happy about it, at all.

I remember being so exhausted from all of the hiking we did, and the night sounds of the woods around us in the tent. It was a wonderful trip, and I can’t wait to start camping with the kiddos. Possibly this summer!
