I took these on a cloudy morning, during the early days of my obsession with taking photos of flowers. I was still using auto settings on my camera; at the time, a Nikon D70. I’m going to be planting orange tulip bulbs with some grape hyacinth this weekend, so maybe I’ll try another set of photos this Spring.
This patch of blooms was along a very busy road that led from our old house in South Carolina into a trendy part of Charlotte called Ballantyne. The landscaping had recently been watered, so the ground was soggy and wet, and the weather was chilly. I was lying on my side and belly for most of these, and I remember feeling really silly, hoping nobody drove by that I knew. The silly feeling wasn’t enough to keep me from missing out on shooting the tulips, though.
As a bonus, I snagged some artsy photos of some magnolias near a parking lot on my way home.
