Facebook Archives | Peanut

Once again, I didn’t blog or journal throughout my pregnancy with Peanut, just like with Pumpkin. I do post on Facebook regularly, and the new function that allows you to download all of your information has made it very easy to keep track of the posts I’ve made about the pregnancy and her. This is a compilation of relevant or special posts. The first Peanut-related post was made on December 9, 2010, shortly after the positive pregnancy test, which was December 6th, I believe.

“Making the decision to have a child – it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body.” – Elizabeth Stone
December 9, 2010

The Captain, Jenny, and the Pumpkin; a trio made in heaven. Surprise! A trio no more; the three become FOUR in August 2011!
February 3, 2011

Made my first baby-related purchase…three nursing tanks from babysteals.com. I’m almost as excited about nursing again as I am about having another child!
February 8, 2011

The Captain just called to tell me that I need to change my profile picture from the “peesticks” to something else.
February 8, 2011

First day of my second trimester. Sweet!
February 14, 2011

I am hurting, and it is kind of scary especially when I sneeze or do anything that exerts my abs. Keith made me laugh really hard this morning and I was doubled over in pain. It was bad when I got out of bed this morning too. It is mostly concentrated on the lower left side, which I’ve read is classic round ligament pain, and I’m just starting trimester two, when is when it is supposed to start. Even though I know the reality of the stretching muscles, any little pains or twinges just make me nervous. I worked in the yard yesterday, and even though I took it easy, I am a worry wart. I feel guilty. But I try to remind myself the kinds of physical things that women for centuries have done. We wouldn’t have lasted very long as a species if we were that fragile! 16 week checkup on Friday…I’m dying to hear that heartbeat again!
February 27, 2011

We’ll know if Pumpkin is going to have a brother or a sister on March 17th. I’m crazy curious this time around. I honestly didn’t even think about Pumpkin’s gender until the second the ultrasound tech said, “So do you want to know the sex?” This time, I’m so interested! Anyone else feel this way with subsequent pregnancies?
March 2, 2011

I’d love for Pumpkin to have a sister, but I have a brother that is about the same age difference from me as this baby will be from Pumpkin, and though we were at each other’s throats during our teenage years, it has always been awesome to have a little brother. I’d love a boy so I wouldn’t have to share my “girly” relationship with Pumpkin with another girl, but I’d love another girl so she, Pumpkin, and I could have a girly trio. Really though, I genuinely don’t care. It will be a win-win either way. Though choosing names for a little boy will be much easier than choosing for a girl again…we have so many girl names that we like, but only one real contender for boys. This pregnancy has been so different so far…I really think it is a little boy.
March 2, 2011

Been too tired to spend any time with my hubs after Pumpkin goes to sleep…all I want to do is go to bed. I miss him.
March 8, 2011

Shopping online this morning for some clothes…do pregnant mamas seriously buy “skinny” and “low rise” maternity jeans?!
March 10, 2011

I just ate a piece of German chocolate cake that was as big as my face.
March 10, 2011

I’m cleaning bathrooms this morning, and I made a mask out of an old sports bra by wrapping it around my face and the back of my head with the strap, to minimize breathing fumes. Nobody can say I’m not creative! March 11, 2011

Did you know the song “Closing Time” is about pregnancy and childbirth? The line “this room won’t be open ’til your brothers or your sisters come” had me in tears while I was driving to lunch this afternoon. Hello, pregnancy hormones! I always liked this song…liked it even more when I found out why it was written.
March 14, 2011

Prepping for a massive garage sale to make room for the new wee one. I’ve been at it spanning about two weeks so far. This is hard work!
March 15, 2011

Almost fell asleep reading Pumpkin her nighttime books..eesh.
March 15, 2011

My husband is a dream. First, he cooks me dinner (actually, he grilled), then he ORDERS me upstairs to take a bubble bath while he cleans up the kitchen and keeps Pumpkin. The bath ended up with Pumpkin joining me (she LOVES it), but it was still awesome. I’m a noodle right now…I really needed it! Tomorrow – ultrasound!
March 16, 2011

Baby number two is healthy, adorable, and a total firecracker! Wouldn’t stop moving long enough to get many good pictures.
March 17, 2011

We’ll be adding another GIRL to the family in mid-August! We are so thrilled. Keith is an only child, and I only have a brother, so we have no idea what to expect from sisters!
March 17, 2011

The babe is really bumping around in there tonight…she is a nightowl like her sister was. I wake up every night around 3:30 and I’m awake for about fifteen minutes, just feeling her move and spending some quiet time, just her and I.
March 22, 2011

Can I really be 20 weeks pregnant already? Already impatient to meet this babe. No nervousness like the first time, just excitement and awe!
March 28, 2011

I’ve got baby rabies something fierce right now, after looking at some newborn pics…can it be August now please? Seriously overwhelming hormone surge. My face got hot, my heart swelled, and man, its a good thing I’m not lactating yet…
April 7, 2011

Baby girl is awake and thumping around like a little dancer…I’m enjoying the company while I work.
April 14, 2011

Baby moves nearly nonstop. Pumpkin was very laid back, and still is. This little girl is a firecracker!
April 28, 2011

Overheard the Captain talking to Pumpkin, “Pumpkin, do you want a little sister?” Pumpkin continues playing, no response. The Captain continues, “We made you one…….but she’s not ready yet.”
May 7, 2011

Apparently, I’ve only gained 8 pounds this pregnancy. I gained a total of 26 with Pumpkin. Does this mean I’m going to gain 18+ pounds in three months??!
May 13, 2011

Painting the baby’s room today!
May 14, 2011

Out for brunch…stood up from the table to leave and a bunch of food crumbs showered off my belly. Elegant.
May 22, 2011

Every time I haven’t felt the baby move in a while, and comment on it to my hubby, within an hour, she comes back with a vengeance and bumps around so hard that it hurts, or I nearly pee. She’s sassy!
May 29, 2011

30 weeks today. I can’t believe it.
June 6, 2011

Starbucks guy just called me “hot pregnant lady”. I need to go there more often.
June 13, 2011

Teaching a three-hour biology lab in front of eighteen students takes on a whole new level of excitement when I have practice contractions and a five-ish pound baby using my bladder as a trampoline the whole time…
June 29, 2011

One-hour prenatal massage in a couples room with Keith in t-minus 51 minutes. I hope I don’t fall asleep. Or fart. Or fart in my sleep.
July 3, 2011

This baby girl has the hiccups just as much as her big sister did around this time! It feels SO bizarre!
July 6, 2011

Says The Captain as he is clearing out bookshelf space in our extremely overcrowded office, “Fit Pregnancy? Why do you even have this?”
July 10, 2011

I knew Pumpkin’s pregnancy was near the end when I started having a really hard time denying myself red wine. Tonight I’m making chicken marsala (with marsala wine, of course) and a spinach and cannelini bean dish that has a lot of white wine in it. Smelled so good, I barely kept myself from pulling a Julia Child.
July 12, 2011

Pretty sure I got some kind of plant-caused rash on my neck and chin from cuddling one of the dogs after they were in the woods. As if I could be more uncomfortable. At this point in my pregnancy with Pumpkin, I dropped a hot curling iron on my boob, so I guess it could be worse.
July 23, 2011

Wonder if this will be our last weekend with only one child.
July 29, 2011

Doc estimates a 7ish pound baby…Pumpkin was 8lb 14oz when she was born. The Captain wants her to be bigger…I think he should deliver her then! 1cm and 50%! Progress!
August 2, 2011

38w3d. The Captain says I look small compared to with Liv. I feel like I’m carrying a buffalo!
August 3, 2011

How is it even physiologically possible for this baby to wedge her foot OVER my ribcage?
August 5, 2011

House cleaned, Pilot cleaned, bags packed, nursery done, parents here…my legs are even shaved, for goodness’ sake. Come on, baby!
August 5, 2011

So maybe I was wrong about this baby coming before the 15th…
August 10, 2011

Full moon, thunderstorm, a day away from my due date…could it be tonight? Bouncing on a birthing ball and watching Dr. Who. Let’s go baby!
August 13, 2011

No real change from last week…need to do some whitewater rafting or mountain biking. Baby girl has been issued her eviction notice!
August 15, 2011

I never thought I’d be 40+ weeks pregnant and doing yard work in the middle of a Carolina August, but I was out there for two hours this morning and it felt awesome. Slept really well the past two nights, too…come on baby!
August 17, 2011

At theater for Fright Night… Maybe we can scare this baby out!!!
August 19, 2011

I am not, in fact, posting on Facebook today from a maternity suite at Carolinas Medical Center. The youngest Mademoiselle Hooks is still snug as a bug…I think she caught wind of the recent earthquake and impending hurricane shenanigans and has decided to stay where it is safest.
August 24, 2011

It’s baby time! Gestation Sensation and Action Captain on the way to the hospital.
August 26, 2011

Peanut arrived at 12:33!! A big, big girl…9 lb 5 oz, 21.5in…much more later!
August 27, 2011

Newborn baby smell should be a controlled substance.
August 28, 2011

Thank you all for the well-wishes! Peanut is so remarkably like Pumpkin…sweet-tempered, strong, and sassy! Showing signs of being more of a cuddler and less of an independent baby than Pumpkin, though. I see lots of babywearing in our future! We are in heaven!
August 28, 2011

I told The Captain that I’d pumped 55 ounces of milk in the last four days, and he responded, “Whooooa! That’s like a Big Gulp!”
September 4, 2011

Our baby girl is eleven days old and seems to have caught the head cold crud that has The Captain and I in it’s grip. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by it and is eating and sleeping fine, but I still feel guilty as hell.
September 8, 2011

When she has a full belly, Peanut frequently does this adorable little hiccuping giggle in her sleep, complete with a huge grin. I know she’s still too young to be smiling socially, but it is SO. DARN. CUTE. Two weeks old today!
September 10, 2011

I think Peanut’s diet is 90% milk, 10% dog hair.
September 12, 2011

My baby girl looooves to sleep…I don’t remember Pumpkin sleeping this much. Peanut really only wakes up to eat, right on cue every three hours. Then immediately back to sleep! Anyone else have a snoozy little one?
September 13, 2011

My manperson brings me coffee while I’m locked down in the glider for Peanut’s 6:00 am feeding. Little things like this make me get those little cartoon hearts in my eyes for him.
September 14, 2011

As of Monday, Peanut weighs ten pounds. I bought some sleepers for her yesterday in the 6m sizes, since she’s almost too big for the 3m stuff. Pumpkin was the same way…we make Amazonian girls.
September 15, 2011

I broke the first rule of motherhood…both girls napped all afternoon at the same time, and I cleaned house rather than relaxing. Fail.
September 17, 2011

Today was a blur…Peanut spent the first half of the day screaming at me, and the second half refusing to be put down. My girl has some lungs! Pumpkin is home with us tomorrow…mommy’s first solo day with both darlings. Wish me luck!
September 20, 2011

Thought the name we chose for Peanut wasn’t used much, but I’m hearing it everywhere now. A pre-teen girl with us in the waiting room at the pediatrician. Little girl at Target. One of the girls in the photo shoot with Pumpkin. Dog boarder’s daughter. The Captain’s coworker’s daughter…
September 22, 2011

Peanut has smiled at her daddy twice today…no smiles yet for mommy! I’m so jealous.
September 25, 2011

Pretty sure Peanut has some kind of sixth sense that makes her wake up as soon as I sit down to eat something…
September 26, 2011

There are two little snoring angels in the back seat of the car. I think it is the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard. It’s like they are echoing each other.
October 1, 2011

Peanut definitely has a favorite family member. Hint: it’s not mommy or daddy.
October 2, 2011

What I love about babywearing, item #135: feeling her tiny little belly moving against mine as she breathes.
October 10, 2011

Our baby girl literally says “ah goo”, while smiling with twinkly, sparkly eyes. She’s like an adorable babydoll prototype. Also, my two-year old appears to be able to spell “poop”. Is anyone surprised?
October 14, 2011

I left the house with a nine week old and only one diaper in the diaper bag. Winner!
November 1, 2011

Peanut’s two month wellbaby visit today, she is 23.5 inches long and weighs in at 12.2 pounds! She’s tracking daintier than her big sis at this age!
November 8, 2011

The Captain is making Peanut laugh! ♥ ♥ ♥
November 14, 2011

It figures that the night Pumpkin goes to bed by 5:00, Peanut screams for most of the evening. Happens nearly every time The Captain and I think we’ll get some ‘us’ time.
November 27, 2011

Peanut rolled from her back to her belly on her own this morning. So it begins. I imagine her quoting Mal Reynolds in her mind…”I aim to misbehave.”
December 4, 2011

A year ago today, I took a pregnancy test and found out that Peanut was with us. She is more special than I could have imagined. I love this baby girl!
December 6, 2011

I washed and hung all of Pumpkin’s 6 month clothes for Peanut, and it floored me how fast this parenthood thing is flying by. I feel like Pumpkin was JUST wearing these clothes, and now I’ve got a second child wearing them. Wow.
December 9, 2011

There are twenty-six items on my to-do list for today… Half are errands and half are in-home. No clue how I’m going to get it all done in the company of a growth-spurting four month old who only wants to eat, eat, cuddle, and eat.

The magnitude with which I love my daughters is the same, but I’m surprised and delighted by how *differently* I love them. I never expected it to be this way…I wish I could better put it into words.
January 2, 2012

Quiet, calm feeding sessions with Peanut, cruising Facebook and Pinterest on my phone with a mug of coffee…are now mostly a thing of the past. My placid angel has been replaced by a kicking, slapping, scratching, tugging, grunting little animal. I predict she’s going to be a biter…
January 3, 2012

It’s official; Peanut only has eyes for her big sister. It has gotten to the point where she would rather watch and play with Pumpkin than eat.
January 4, 2012

Remind me again when babies start teething? Peanut has been a little beast today.
January 5, 2012

Peanut has pushed up onto her hands and knees a few times in the last several days, and she’s been scooting around on her chest with her butt in the air. I’m not ready for two mobile kiddos!
January 10, 2012

Peanut is 14.8 pounds and 26 inches long (95th and 75th, respectively) at 19 weeks old! She’s tracking just like her big sis!
January 11, 2012

Nursing Peanut right now is miserable. It is seriously like feeding a honey badger. Someone remind me that it is all worth it.
January 12, 2012

2:09 am and I’m still up with a turbo-charged five month old, with no sign of tiring in sight due to a disrupted sleep routine. If this is the price I have to pay for some adult time, count me out! Meanwhile, my husband sleeps soundly just feet away.
January 22, 2012

I’ve discovered the true danger of bedsharing…it is nearly impossible to drag myself away from a warm, soft, cuddly, sweet-smelling, lightly snoring baby girl to get ready for work.
January 24, 2012

In just five days time, Peanut is now fully mobile. She can sniper crawl and drag herself everywhere she wants to go. Crazy how much earlier than Pumpkin she’s accomplished this! And is it normal for her to be mobile before she can even sit up unassisted?
February 6, 2012

You think your floors are moderately clean, until you have a scooting/ half crawling baby in a white sleeper cruising around on them all day, and see the results ..ugh.
February 10, 2012

We just put Peanut in a nine-month sleeper… Yowza!
February 16, 2012

It’s official; Peanut is a biter.
February 20, 2012

Peanut has a wee tooth nubbin poking through! She is digging rice cereal now.
February 26, 2012

Peanut is a biter, and I surfed the web hoping for a sure solution to get her to stop (I’ve tried several), but mostly what I find are dozens of stories from moms who experienced the same thing and just persevered. I already miss quiet, cuddly feeding time.
March 17, 2012

One year ago today, I wore a green shirt to my ultrasound appointment and we found out that the little bean was another darling little girl. I remember hearing John Mayer’s song “Daughters” on the radio on the way over, and I think I already kind of knew. ♥
March 17, 2012

Just shy of seven months old, twelve month jammies. Yikes!
March 23, 2012

Peanut really wants to do Legos with big sis and dad. And by “do”, mean “put all the tiny things into her mouth”
March 24, 2012

Peanut is seven months old and wearing one of Pumpkin’s 24 month teeshirts. I know Circo runs small, but sheeeesh!
April 9, 2012

I just watched Peanut launch herself head-first into The Captain’s bowl of ice cream, trying to get some for herself.
April 17, 2012

Well, hrm. It looks like Miss Peanut is going to work with mommy tomorrow, and having her first day of college at the ripe old age of seven months. I *literally* forgot about making bottles for her this weekend. I guess she has to go where the milk goes. April 17, 2012

Little Peanut is with me today at work, and as soon as we got to my office, she promptly pooped her pants. Sometimes, that’s the kind of day I seem to have, too.
April 18, 2012

My baby is eight months old today. Seriously, Time? Cut me some slack, here!
April 27, 2012

Peanut has been saying “dooey-dooey” a lot lately…it is so adorable. I wonder what it means.
May 4, 2012

Peanut started standing on her own this week. She can only stay vertical for about 2-3 seconds before plopping on her butt, but it is impressive!
May 23, 2012

Little Pea rarely gets to bathe without Olivia, who commandeers all of the toys. When I put her in the bath alone tonight, she just sat there for a second, looking at the bounty of My Little Ponies floating all around her, and just hooted like a happy little owl.
June 14, 2012

I put Peanut in front of Yo Gabba Gabba so I could finish Keith’s caramel cake before he gets home. Where do I send the form to nominate myself for mother of the year? Side note – she is cooing like a dove. She loves it.
June 16, 2012

Frequently now, when Peanut hears herself or Pumpkin toot (never mommy or daddy, of course), she mimics the sound by blowing a raspberry. Those of you that know me well know that this is possibly one of the most delightful things I have ever experienced as a parent.
June 20, 2012

Not sure when kids start showing handedness, but Little Pea is showing some definite southpaw tendencies. We’re coloring, and she always grabs for crayons with her left hand.
July 14, 2012

Miss Pea is now firmly and unapologetically in the “must annoy big sis ALL THE TIME” phase. Poor Pumpkin…payback is a you-know-what!
July 17, 2012

…and just like that, my baby girl was wearing 18 month jammies.
July 25, 2012

Peanut found a matchbox car at the mall play area and hasn’t relinquished it since. Hopefully it’s previous owner didn’t have any communicable diseases, because it has been thoroughly marinated in her saliva all afternoon.
July 27, 2012

Tonight while we were rocking, Peanut put both of her hands on my cheeks, said “mama” in her tiny little voice, and pressed her forehead to mine. Love, love, love!
July 20, 2012

Some alarmingly toddler-esque tantrums from my sweet Peanut lately…
July 31, 2012

My 11 month old bursts into dance when she hears virtually any music. She rocks!
August 5, 2012

Baby gets hiccups during nighttime cuddle routine, and all hopes of actually getting her to sleep are history.
August 5, 2012

12:00, 1:30, 2:40, 4:45, 6:00, and now 7:30 am. Is that a listing of movie showing times, you may ask? Nope. Those are the times that my sweet Peanut had me up last night/this morning. Haven’t slept more than a three hour stretch in a week. Hurting. And very cranky. What’s it like to have babies that sleep well before they are two-year-olds?
August 12, 2012

I think Peanut’s first three words are “mama”, “Casey” ( my parent’s dog) and “kiss”. If I remember right, Pumpkin’s were “hey”, “book”, and “baw” (for bottle) 🙂
August 21, 2012

My darling Peanut is nursing to sleep, and just slowly raised her leg all the way up, then let out two resonant little farts right into my face. Sigh. My child.
August 26, 2012

Did I mention that Peanut said her fourth and fifth words yesterday and today? “cake” on her birthday, and “iPad” today. Ha!
August 28, 2012

Motherhood is… My daughter screeching and dive-bombing my bosom with every ounce of her 20 pound little body, while tugging down the front of my dress, wanting to nurse in the middle of the aisle at Walmart.
September 2, 2012

It is 4:52 am and I’ve been up with Peanut since 3:00 am. She has finally fallen asleep on me, but do I dare move her? And do I even bother trying to get some more sleep, when I will have to be getting them ready for daycare in an hour and a half anyway? Maybe I should just make a cup of coffee and surf Pinterest.
September 4, 2012

I never imagined that I’d be nursing long enough that my child is old enough to BRING me the Boppy as her way of telling me she wanted to nurse. Love
October 15, 2012

My sweet Peanut is cutting like 47 teeth, AND today at school she fell while playing and bit into her tongue pretty badly. Peaceful vibes to our household tonight, please.
November 20, 2012

As if pinkeye and an upper respiratory infection wasn’t enough…my sweet Pea is cutting two molars.
December 11, 2012

The Captain wouldn’t share his Pringles with Peanut, so first, she slapped him on the cheeks with both hands. Then, she scratched his neck, followed by head-butts. Girlfriend takes her snack foods seriously.

When a doctor calculates dosages for liquid antibiotics for babies, do they account for the inevitable amount that gets lost while said baby screams, thrashes, and attempts to spit the antibiotic back into the hapless mother’s weary face?
January 4, 2013

Cutest thing of 2013 so far – Sweet Pea singing the Dora theme song – “doot doot DAAAA”… Melt!
January 5, 2013

I’m so proud; my 17-month-old knows what a dice bag is.
January 25, 2013

The Captain is treating me to a pedicure. Last time I was in this chair, I was in labor with Peanut! Had contractions the whole time. 🙂
February 2, 2013

Guess who was up from roughly 11:30-3:30 last night? Little Pea is up to her old tricks. Keith and I both were up for most of it. He took her downstairs for me around 2:30, but I still couldn’t sleep.
Someone please tell me she’s teething. She’s nearly 18 months. *yawn*
I’m terrified of her not growing out of this before Baby Boy comes.
February 22, 2013

I can pay my vet $15 to cut my dogs’ toenails…I wonder if they’d do my 18-month-old.
February 27, 2013

“Peanut, do you love mommy?”
“No.”
“You don’t love mommy?”
Pea, shaking head no, “Sissy.”
“You love Sissy?”
Nods yes. 🙂 Ha!
March 15, 2013

Based upon Peanut’s behavior tonight, I’m pretty sure that the menu at daycare today consisted of crystal meth and Fun Dip.
March 19, 2013

I think…for the first time in her nineteen months of life…that Peanut has gone to sleep on her own, rather than being in The Captain or I’s arms. I’m almost afraid to go check, but there hasn’t been a peep from the girls’ room in about fifteen minutes. This could be HUGE.
